REPORT: Rooftop tent is an expensive way to tell people you only go off-road for social media content

An aspiring 4WD influencer has finally made his dreams come true after purchasing a rooftop tent for the rig he takes out on long weekends to take photos next to.

Sure, not everyone thinks paying $2500 for a solution to a problem that didn’t exist is wise but Todd thinks differently. He told The Times,

“Having a rooftop tent is an absolute must in the 4WD nuffie game. It’s a great example of all the gear and no idea and that’s my brand. Do you have any idea how many likes a photo of a rooftop tent gets overlooking a stunning vista in the WA outback?”

In fact, the rooftop tent has already paid dividends for the influencer who had previously relied on his Kings Awning to do the heavy lifting in the “living the dream” social media facade.

Haters of rooftop tents aren’t necessarily against them, however. With one ground-dweller telling The Times that a rooftop tent is a great way for emergency services to identify someone who will need help soon. Adding,

“We’re not in South Africa, you don’t have the risk of a lion rolling through your tent. They are just unnecessary but they do help us clearly identify the BCF crowd, if you catch my drift”

Naturally, the rooftop tent community hit back at people who say the over engineered solution is unnecessary. With one fan telling The Times,

“Yeah, I can’t stand up in my tent and have to use a piss bottle next to my partner to avoid climbing the ladder early in the morning but it looks hell good from a drone with my GoPro attached and isn’t that what camping is all about?”

You might just be right these days, bud.
