Australia tells under 16s they don’t need social media when they have so many gambling ads on TV to keep them entertained

The Australian Government has conceded that many under 16s are going to be disappointed with the decision to ban social media but there is a silver lining.

What silver lining you may ask kids? Well, you’ll have plenty more time to take in the millions of gambling ads on your TV until they will (apparently) be banned. A spokesperson added,

“Bet with mates! That sounds fun doesn’t it kids. So sit back enjoy the bombardment of ads and dream of a future where you won’t be the one wearing the tatty school uniform but be the guy who can’t afford to buy his kids new ones!”

Some naysayers say that this is an “empty promise” given the Government has made some statements about reducing the amount of gambling ads during sport. The spokesperson added,

“We are making some lame efforts to try and ban in-stadium gambling ads but if we are honest the gambling lobby is very powerful so that probably wont happen. They also wont be disappearing from your screens anytime soon as the archaic legacy media essentially is fuelled by them, TV wouldn’t exist without them”

So there you have it kids. While you lament the absence of doomscrolling TikTok from your life you can focus on a societal harm that the Government doesn’t feel like doing anything about.

That’s the Australian way!
