If you thought the layout of the Wilman Wadandi Highway aka the Bunbury Bypass looked familiar you would be right.
Main Roads (probably) confirmed today that the design was heavily influenced by a childhood favourite. A spokesperson told The Times,
“The problem with infrastructure is that we keep bamboozling WA drivers with things like straight roads. What we needed to do was design something that was deeply familiar to them. Something almost every Westralian owned as a kid”
Accordingly, the road map mat thingo that was found on every kid’s play area since the beginning of time was used.

The design has proved a big hit with many motorists feeling like driving the highway feels nostalgic. Almost like being gently rocked to sleep as a child.
Which is why a good helping of loose rocks were placed across the highway to act as little “WAKE UP JEFFS” so you don’t lose yourself to your childhood whims.
Very clever stuff it has to be said.
