Regional road users between Geraldton & Carnarvon have been left in a state of shock after a man driving a car with Perth licence plates habitually delivered a one finger courtesy wave as he drove past them.
It is a practice that once ruled the roads but after the Perthification of prime regional holiday spots, the courteous act is rarely seen, especially by those coming from the big smoke.
We spoke to a regional man who said he was so touched by the gesture he didn’t even want to continue his Wolf Creekesque plans. Adding,
“When I saw a Corolla coming towards me I thought, Dazza gone have some fun with this one ha ha. Then he lifted his finger to acknowledge our passing and I put the zip ties down and kept on driving. Lucky ha ha”
Another servo worker along the route said the man in question displayed such respect for regional ways she was forced to enquire about his origin. Adding,
“He paid with cash (which is king), he didn’t complain about his phone reception and he didn’t bat an eyelid when I done a bushies blow on the floor. I was like, are you from Carnarvon, mate? He said, no, he’s from Perth”
We managed to track down the courteous motorist to ask him why he was bucking the trend and giving Perth a good name. He told The Times,
“It doesn’t take much to acknowledge other motorists on the road, I think building an atmosphere of respect is crucial to improving safety and general enjoyment of these long haul drives”
Something wasn’t adding up and we later learned he was pulled over and arrested on the suspicion of driving on MDMA.
