One could be fooled into thinking Stoinis’ heroic knock would earn him the man of the match in the T20 world cup match between Australia and Sri Lanka last night in Perth.
The Aussie batsman belted a beastly 59 off 18 and all but sealed Aussie’s victory with no thanks to sluggish Finch sharing the wicket with him. However, as always, the real star of the show shone brightly as ever: Perth Stadium.
Despite Eastern State whinging about the timing of the match, the Perth Stadium light show rocked the socks off anyone lucky enough to be watching the spectacle. A spokesperson for Perth Stadium told The Times,
“You could hit a century off 17 balls and still struggle to outshine our Stadium. What a marvel. Lowkey, we are starting to call ourselves the home of cricket”
One could also forgive Stoinis for feeling a bit dirty over being pipped at the line for the honour. However, he conceded his stellar performance was no match for WA’s greatest infrastructure project, adding,
“Nah, fair play. What a beaut. I might be biased as a West Aussie but behind the scenes everyone’s talking about Perth Stadium being the best place to play cricket. It’s just a fact”
Naturally, Perth Stadium was gracious in victory. Vowing to continue to razzle dazzle spectators and not let the constant praise go to his head. On’ya Perth Stadium.
