Rumours of a North Melbourne / Bunbury merger have gone into overdrive after it was announced that the AFL has agreed to build a replica of the mighty Bunbury Tower in the heartland of North Melbourne footy club.
The news comes after WA agreed to prop up the Kangaroo’s dwindling finances by purchasing two home games. One to be played in Bunbury next year.
Built in 1986, Bunbury Tower stands as a symbol of South West pride and the building of a replica will be seen as the Kangaroo’s “bending a knee” and acknowledging their financial bail out.
A spokesperson for the AFL told The Times,
“There is a real Bunbury buzz around Arden Street these days. We are even seeing houses in the area get replica Maiden statues in their yards. Big concrete tiddys everywhere, you love to see it”
Naturally, not everyone is happy with the writing on the wall. The Shinboners adamant that their club should get bailed out unconditionally. Some even saying they would consider attending a few games next year “if they had to”.
Likewise, not everyone in Bunbury is happy with the plan. We spoke to a Bunbarian who told The Times that Bunbury shouldn’t be tarnished with the stink of failure form North and that Collie should pack their bags and go.
Certainly food for thought.
