REPORT: Not the first time a purple team has let WA down at the MCG

Western Australia found itself in a strange position, putting their hopes of the Scorchers making the Big Bash finals in the hands of the Hobart Hurricanes.

Alas, once again, WA was let down by a purple team playing away at the MCG! It was all to reminiscent of the Fremantle Dockers playing on the big stage. Although, last year it was arguably the failure to beat the out of form Eagles at Perth Stadium that cost them a spot.

We spoke to a Freo Dockers and Scorcher’s fan who said the loss brought up some troubling memories, adding,

“I don’t want to talk about it, a purple flop at the G brings me back to the first quarter of the 2013 grand final. Too soon”

The match didn’t start out well for WA, with the Stars smashing 219 runs from their 20 overs. It was always going to be a tough total to chase down.

Certainly didn’t help with Maxwell tonking a dozen sixes.

Nevertheless, the Hurricanes openers put on a brave effort and the Scorcher’s fan base had some hope. Alas, that hope was all but extinguished shortly after.

No doubt the Hurricanes put in a sloppy effort. Perhaps a little complacent being at the top of the order.
