Authorities ran Sam Mitchell out of Whiteman Park yesterday after he was repeatedly told to stay away from the local wedgetail eagle’s and their nest.
The Hawthorn coach allegedly arrived at Whiteman Park after hearing of a new generation of Eagles who were essentially free agents at this point.
We spoke to a member of the public who was enjoying a picnic at the park when he saw the kerfuffle. He told The Times,
“Mitchell had just scurried down from a tree with a very angry mumma Eagle on his tail. That didn’t deter him though, when it comes to poaching eagles, he won’t be stopped”
After a second attempt to scale the tree and have a “friendly chat” with the birds of prey, authorities were forced to intervene. A statement from local wildlife authorities stated,
“At approximately 10 am on Saturday, we had to caution a senior coach in Whiteman Park for repeated attempts at getting access to the eagles. He was tenacious and it became clear words would not be enough so a small party formed to chase him out of the park”
Amazingly, Mitchell was seen re-entering the park just 10 minutes later. However, this time wearing his old West Coast guernsey in an attempt to look like an eagle.
Sam Mitchell was again chased out of Whiteman Park and told in no uncertain terms that he is unwelcome anywhere near the big birds.
