Tame Impala’s Grammy actually a bigger deal for bloke who claims to have met Kevin Parker in a Freo kebab line in 2010

Tame Impala have won their first Grammy for best dance/electronic recording for their song Neverender with Justice.

Of course, the while the award is a big accolade for the band, having been nominated 5 times, it pales in comparison to local Perth bloke Sam who has been telling people he met Kevin Parker in a Freo kebab line for the past 15 years.

We spoke to Sam who had just finished telling yet another work colleague about the anecdote he swears is true. He told us,

“Mate, I’d been smashing froffs at the Norfolk all evening when I decided to grab a kebab down the road. I remember squinting to try to read the menu before just slurring that I wanted a double chicken kebab with egg, cheese, sweet chilli and sour cream. That’s when I saw him”

Sam was clearly well rehearsed telling this story, as he continued with full hand gesture theatrics. Adding,

“This longed haired man with an angelic voice turned around and said, well ordered mate, and I say, IT’s KEVIN FKN PARKER. I told him I loved Tame and we had a real connection. I tried to get a little singalong going of Sunday Syndrome but then my order was ready so I got distracted and Kevin disappeared into the night”

While it’s a good story and one in the same vein as everyone who thinks they met Heath Ledger, it does have some inconsistencies. We spoke to one of Sam’s mates who disputes Sam’s recollection of events,

“Yeah that guy wasn’t Kevin Parker and he was really getting weirded out by Sam expressing his love for him. He had long hair, that was true”

Sam joins a long list of Perth residents who claim to have met the award winning singer. It’s just one of those Perth things.
