In a rare showing of sense, both sides of WA politics have agreed in theory to a law stating that if you want to build a house or fancy hotel next to an established live music venue you don’t have the right to whinge about the noise.
The proposed law comes after Freo.Social face an uncertain future as a luxury hotel is built next to it. A source close to WA powerbrokers told The Times,
“It’s about time the State did more to protect businesses that are already getting bent over the barrel by red tape, insurance costs and reduce income from cost of living related factors. The last thing they need is having to severely reduce trade because someone thought it was a good idea to build a hotel next to a venue”
Under the proposed law, licencees of live music venues will have access to their own tribunal to deal with noise complaints coming from the mouths of developers & new residents alike.
Should a venue have to hear the whining from big business or blow-ins, they will be able to get a literal gag order to shut them up.
Finally, a bit of legislation almost everyone can get behind.
There appears to be no push back from the opposition on this one.
