Western Power is busy restoring power to 10s of thousands of homes today after some overnight drizzle caused a series of pole top fires across the City.
The flow on effect of the pole top fires included homes & businesses being without power as well as traffic lights in various areas.
However, to calm concerns, Western Power has come out on the front foot and assured WA they are ready for anything winter can throw at it apart from a bit of light drizzle. Adding,
“There are some things you just can’t prepare for. Natural disasters, road accidents and of course, a bit of light precipitation. They all have the potential to cause serious chaos to our power grid”
They are truly comforting words and Westralians will now have the confidence leading into the cooler months that their power will remain on. Provided we don’t experience the unlikely event of drizzle in winter.
Not everyone is comforted by the assurances of Western Power. With some in the community noting that we do indeed get a bit of rain over the winter months.
We spoke to a rain expert who told The Times that last year Perth experienced 76mm in May, 118mm in June, 170mm in July and 138mm in August.
These figures become even more alarming when you realise that most was delivered to the earth via episodes of light drizzles. Western Power’s kryptonite.
Good luck out there.
