A Perth traveller just spent a whirlwind 12 days in New York City and wants you to know all that she is now NYC through and through. Even going as far to claim that she “loves” the city.
Some are skeptical of her claim, given that her borough-dodging trip saw her spend every day in Manhattan without even the slightest attempt to visit the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island. A source close to her told The Times,
“I think what she meant to say is that she loves Manhattan. Fair play, it’s a good location but one has to wonder if it really captures the heart & soul of the eclectic concrete jungle that is NYC. If I’m honest I’m pretty sure she didn’t go anywhere else because she hates public transport and couldn’t afford all the taxi services after blowing her cash on Broadway tickets”
Can one claim they love KFC if they have only ever partaken of the inviting and friendly popcorn chicken? Can only truly love Bali if they have only ever spent their holidays in a Denpasar holding cell and a bit of Skygarden?
Nevertheless, Kirsty isn’t backing down. Even going as far to claim she is somewhat of a trailblazer, haven taken a selfie at Times Square, saw a Broadway show, pissed off a pedestrian, seen a comedy show, and spent a whimsical afternoon at Central Park. That’s a lot of basic boxes ticked!
She also angrily disputes the allegations that she never left Manhattan and brought up evidence in support her wanderlusting. She told The Times,
“Like a pro traveller, I caught the Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty for FREE. So I was definitely in the waters of Staten Island for a bit. I didn’t venture onto the island though, you never know if the Wu-Tang are still active or whatever”
Kirsty also claims to be somewhat of a pizza snob now. After munching down on several New York slices during her stay in Manhattan. She is now very much of the opinion that Australia’s greatest problem is the lack of single slices ready to go. She may have a point on that one.
Not only does Kirsty love NYC but she also has formed the opinion that America isn’t a mess given her favourable trip to the elite borough. Adding,
“They say America is all gross but honestly it was fine! America is fine! The bars are so cool and I didn’t see any school get locked down or anything. I’d feel perfectly safe living in an apartment on the Upper East Side. People need to get out more and travel!”
Kirsty also claims to have ventured into Harlem during her walk in Central Park. Of course, Harlem is a suburb of Manhattan but she claimed it sounded a bit more “urban” and thus counts as an outer Manhattan experience. It is unclear what she means by the word urban but I think you can get the idea.
Some might be thinking this sounds rather familiar. In fact, it is. It’s just like the time Kirsty told everyone she loved London after spending a week in Clapham and not a suburb beyond.
For some, travel broadens the mind, for others it just broadens their IG reach and Manhattan clearly has more famous spots. Did she mention she climbed the Rockerfeller Tower so she could get a clear photo of the Empire State? Absoutely PRO.
Documenting the Human Zoo is thirsty work, so if you enjoyed what you read how about buying Belle a beer, ay?
